Completing the Elgar Trilogy – A Special Performance of The Apostles Chichester Cathedral, November 15th, 2025
July 1, 2025

It feels especially poignant to be returning to Chichester Cathedral with the Chichester Singers and their conductor Jonathan Willcocks. Over the years, we’ve journeyed together through Elgar’s deeply spiritual and richly textured works. My first appearance with them was in The Kingdom back in February 2017—a last-minute step-in that turned into a truly memorable evening. We reunited after lockdown for The Dream of Gerontius, which was my first concert back after that long silence. And now, at last, The Apostles.
This performance has been a long time coming. My debut in The Apostles was originally scheduled but delayed due to the pandemic. In many ways, this concert is not just the final chapter in a musical trilogy, but a moment of closure—and celebration—for a journey that began nearly a decade ago.
Elgar's oratorios are monumental in both scale and depth, each one exploring themes of faith, doubt, humanity and redemption. Singing these works in the stunning setting of Chichester Cathedral, alongside such a committed and expressive choir, is always a privilege—and this final instalment feels particularly meaningful.
I hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a memorable evening of Elgar at his most visionary.
